Blythe House
Week 2 began with a visit to Blythe House, or what used to be the headquarters of the Royal Mail. We learned later on our London trip that they plan to close Blythe House soon, so the Victoria & Albert Museum archives team are having to digitize everything currently. We met Anne Marie, an archivist on that team, who attempted to explain her job as technically falling under the National Art Library's collections division. She gave us a little more history on the V&A museum beginnings to help give some context for how the collections have grown over the years.
We were shown quite a few items from the Linder Collection of Beatrix Potter materials, including original illustrations and covers. As I read Beatrix Potter growing up, it was a treat to see her work up close and hear about her life, and how they came to house her materials. Understandably, we were unable to take any photographs of the materials.
